About

Florian Jäger is an artist living in Magdeburg (Germany) whose works deal with the central theme of sustainability and mass production in relation to consumption and today’s “throwaway society”. By studying production techniques and production technologies as well as materials technology, he learned that a machine is only economical if it has a high level of utilization. In contrast to the PopArt of the 50s, Florian does not see consumption positively. The pendant lights in his Neo PopArt works symbolize this central statement. The pendant lights has no wear and tear and can be used for years without having to be replaced. Nevertheless, millions of these lamps are produced. Regardless of the greenhouse gases released during production, these products contain inferior plastics, quicksilver, copper and other substances. The low prices mean that defective products are replaced with new products even though they could be repaired. Not everything finds its way to recycling and ends up in the environment, which is a big problem worldwide because plastic is not biodegradable. Since the pendant lamp is made of different materials, it has to be separated or dismantled in order to be recycled. It would therefore be much better to produce lamps from renewable raw materials in small craft businesses. Consumers should not live minimalistically, but should be aware of how products are manufactured and disposed of.

Florian’s images thrive on an mixed color scheme, using colors typical of PopArt such as red, yellow and blue. With strong contours and simple representations, he also accepts errors when copying his templates. Or rather, he consciously changes forms in order to create disharmony.
